Organ Failure No. 2
I need you to cauterize
The wounds he left behind
The bleeder that has sprung
Is draining my heart dry
Crushing both my lungs as they try
To begin to breathe again
Locked inside my ribcage
Slowly drowning in my pain
My sternum presses down on them
Collapsing from the weight
Of the unrealized expectations
And questions gone unanswered
I know it’s a lot to ask
To help bring my body back
From the brink of this implosion
So if you can’t I’ll understand
But if you have the healing hands
The patience and the nerve
Could you suture me together
Bandage up the heartbreak
Dress the wounds and change them
As often as you’re willing to
