Fits with my exclamation

I made a resolution…

Once I used to read

Between the lines of you

To the other side of me….

I took a beat

I took a breath

Hoping it would help…

I took the road less traveled

And wandered for a while

Thinking I could leave you…

I have a recurring dream about you

It began just after we

Began whatever it is we were…

Once a week

I come to this building

And sit near the back…

Can you somehow see

The good part of me

I’ve lost it in the rest…

In cold blood I murdered you

Not your body, but your soul

I took your heart…

Free me from the chains

That bind me to your memory

I am tethered far too tightly…

I’ll write the bones

You draw the soul

As I describe the heartache…

I took away the best of me

And put it on a shelf

The parts I thought might show…

I can't shake the thought of you

The frisson of your kiss

Or the petrichor that lingered….

Blank is what I’m drawing

Numb is how I’m feeling

Reeling from the leaving…

I think I have forgotten

Exactly what we meant

Become complacent in our love…

Below my lungs I feel you stir

Like a dragon waking

After centuries of slumber…

The foundation I was built on

Is shakier than most

It’s had its share of troubles….

I return again and again

To the idea of being broken

To shattered bones becoming stronger…

Take away the fears I have

And I don't know who I am

I've defined myself by…

There’s a handprint on the window

A sign of life gone by

The slightest smudge of movement…

I don’t know how

To accept any love from you

I can’t absorb it now….
