Secrets
Once I used to read
Between the lines of you
To the other side of me
Interpreting the symbols
Stuck inside the gaps
Made by what we left unsaid
I used to run my hands
Across the surface of the cracks
Where things we thought
We hoped
Were insignificant
Fell through
To fester in the darkness
Marinating in unspoken words
Flavored with resentments
Thoughts we were too afraid to tell
Secrets kept in order for us
To keep each other close
But that’s not how secrets work
When grown in silent dark
They cannot bring together
They only push apart
