Floating Words

Poetry from the core of me.

Sisyphus

I don’t feel like writing

About you today

The memories feel grainy

As they scrape along my tongue

The bittersweet just bitter

Lacking all your flavor

Lonely taking over

To make me pull through

The endless days that creep

Along, ahead, behind

Dragging me

And whipping me

To force the march of time

But there’s nothing else

To write about

The well has gone dry

You sit at the bottom

The lone thing on my mind

The ghost that haunts my memory

The banshee in my ear

So I’m at the page

Which suddenly looks

Like the hill of Sisyphus

Doomed to toil and write along

To waste more ink on you

To put the same old words

Into the lined paper

And read back another version

Of my love’s epic failure
