Floating Words

Poetry from the core of me.

After the Leaving

I stapled up my torso

From where my heart broke through

Stitched the sinews back together

As it went off

Chasing you

You both left me with this chasm

In my life and in my chest

Covered with a jagged scar

That will never fully mend

I cannot call it heartbreak

The damn thing isn’t broken

It’s just gone

Followed you

Right out the door

Trailing speckles of my blood

I could follow that same path

Of bloody breadcrumb dots

To find you both again

But it would be a futile errand

You wouldn’t take me back

And my heart would only shatter

If I forced it to return

It’s happiest with you

In whatever form that takes

I can’t blame it for that
