Amnesia
I haven’t known
What I wanted
For longer than I
Can recall
Which isn’t lying
The amnesia came
After someone left
I don’t remember names
Or the face
I remember the back
As it walked out the door
Then darkness swallows all
Until a few days ago
I awoke on a floor
In an empty house
The front door matched
That dreaded one
But nothing else was familiar
I found a mirror
Looked into sunken eyes
That must be mine
But I didn’t recognize them
I found a calendar
A datebook with appointments
Followed them and tried
To piece a life together
But nothing feels familiar
