Drowning
The waves came in quickly
So unexpectedly
Surrounded me and drowned me
In their icy, blackened grip
They dragged me down within them
Way beyond the light
Leaving me to wonder
Is it even worth the fight
The effort it would take
To attempt to swim again
Is Herculean in its task
And I’m not sure I have the strength
I’ve been swimming so long
Exhausted body, mind, and soul
Perhaps to sink
Would mean a kind of victory
A choice to fail
Is a success
From a certain point of view
To let the waves just take me
Rock me in their arms
Embrace me, lull me, cradle me
Into oblivion
