Heart Killer

In cold blood I murdered you

Not your body, but your soul

I took your heart

And bludgeoned it

I beat it to a pulp

I knew what I was doing

It was no crime of passion

But homicide in first degree

I preyed upon your wildest fears

Used them all against you

Now I will share the secret

You aren’t the first I’ve done this to

And you will not be the last

It is crucial to my soul

To strike the other down before

They can damage me

My own preemptive strike

To save my fragile heart

One that has been hurt

Far too many times before

The last break hurt the most

It drove me mad

And made me this

Turned me into the heart killer

That claims your love loss now

Your predecessor saw my weakness

Exposed all of them

Forced me to examine

Every little bit

I’m afraid I found them true

So in continuing the cycle

Abused becomes abuser

Hurt person hurts another

I took your love

And crushed it in my fist

You became another

Victim on my list

Another notch

A heartbreak serial

Even though you loved me

More than any had before

There is no way

That could turn out well

So ending this is better

Than being loved

And risking all
